Senior Risk Officer

Job Description

  • Assists the Chief Credit Officer in delivering an industry-leading Risk function to the business. Involves developing, directing, implementing and maintaining appropriate risk management strategies and policies by working with the local Canadian team.
  • Protects BFS' security interest by monitoring client/ portfolio performance.
  • Develops credit and risk policies.
  • Acts as an addition sanction on client facility requests outside local authority levels, in a manner that protects the business' security position.
  • Develops operational system improvements.
  • Represents the interest on the company internally and externally.


  • Establish positioning, identify target audiences and develop marketing plans with specific objectives across different channels  (direct and intermediary) and segments.
  • Drive demand generation through conceptualizing and executing on multi-channel campaigns across the prospect and customer lifecycle, ensuring the alignment of communications and messaging across all channels
  • Gather customer and market insights to inform outreach strategies, increase customer conversions, and generate more qualified leads
  • Identify effectiveness and impact of current marketing initiatives with tracking and analysis, and optimize accordingly, complete with formal proposals and recommendations on tactics; accountable for monitoring and reporting on ROI for all marketing activities
  • Develop and execute content strategy aligned to buying journey and business objectives
  • Develop marketing material in French and English, from website content and social media ads to hard copy brochures and case studies; localization and some translation is required
  • Build strategic relationships and partner with key industry players and associations
  • Develop and deliver a communications program that supports customer experience and loyalty
  • Prepare and monitor the marketing budget on a quarterly and annual basis and allocate funds to reach optimal reults
  • Source and manage relationships with external suppliers/ agencies in terms of deliverables, timelines and costs


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience necessary
  • 10+ years of client service/ risk experience with existing credit authorities
  • Prior management experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team in an office environment and to act independently as required
  • Computer literate with excellent keyboard skills and competency with MS
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong customer service skills required

Key Skills

  • Thorough understanding of BFS' target market
  • Able to evaluate and credit decision Factoring and ABL credit within that market
  • Able to provide a value added level of risk management service and support to assigned offices in such areas as account management, governance, structuring, financial and collateral analysis, reporting requirements and loan documentation
  • Competent problem asset resolution skills and attendant bankruptcy (or similar) issues
  • Able to manage select accounts on a daily basis, if necessary
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial statement analysis
  • Strong working knowledge of collateral and the field exam process
  • Working knowledge of Factoring and ABL systems
  • Able to construct information databases and manage an exception reporting process
  • Thorough command of legal documentation and attendant legal issues
  • Computer literate with good keyboard skills; competent user of MS Office suite with an above average command of Excel
